Drop Ball Drill
Set Up
-
Grab 2 hurdles, tees, chairs or any other
free-standing object that's around 4 feet high.
-
Place the 2 objects around 6 feet in front
of home plate, and around 6 feet apart.
-
Next, tie a rope (or piece of brightly colored
tape) connecting the two objects.
-
Finally, place a flat target 12 inches BEHIND
home plate.
How It Works
-
The purpose of the drill is for your pitcher
to throw a drop ball that passes OVER the rope, then drops quickly to the
bottom of the strike zone, hitting the target placed behind home plate.
-
Have your pitcher complete 3 sets of 10 pitches,
and track the number of successfully hit targets.
-
With younger players, you can move the rope
farther away from home plate, and lower the height of the ropeto around
3 feet.
-
For more advanced pitchers, try moving the
rope CLOSER to home, and have them try to peel the ball to the corners
of the strike zone as well.
